State abbreviations are often required when entering a physical address for purposes such as sending packages, cards, written documents, or filling in forms to postal addresses.

Learning the US state abbreviations is extremely useful and important for those living or doing business in the United States. If you live in Texas, are sending something to Texas, or are looking something up online in the state, it will be helpful to know what the Texas state abbreviation is.

TX State Abbreviation

It is important to not confuse two letter postal abbreviations with a postal code, or zip code when filling out mailing addresses. Although they are part of the address, zip and postal codes are a different thing entirely.

Due to there being 50 states, all with their own unique two-letter abbreviation, it can become a hard task trying to remember each state‘s abbreviation when needed, especially as many states share similar lettering in their names. The purpose of this page is to help you familiarize yourself with the Texas state abbreviation.

The Texas abbreviation is not as easy as some other states that often use the first two letters of their name as the abbreviation. If Texas did this, it would be “TE” – and this is not the abbreviation for Texas. It is, in fact, “TX” the first and third letter of the states’ name. Tennessee is another state that may be considered to have the abbreviation “TE”, but that is not the case either.

TX State Abbreviation

There’s not just the two-letter postal abbreviation for all 50 states, there’s also a traditional abbreviation for each state. Regular state abbreviations came out in 1963, however, many were three or four letters in length and it was decided they would be too long to include on envelopes and packages as addressing equipment couldn’t accommodate these longer state abbreviations in addition to zip codes.

Texasabbreviation is simply made up of the first three letters of the state name with a period at the end of the abbreviation: “Tex.”. The Lone Star State has one of the largest numbers of small businesses in the United States. Texas has always been a national hub for immigration and business, remembering the TX (Texas) state abbreviation is certainly going to come in handy.

People use abbreviations all the time in everyday life and in business, it is important to understand the unique two-letter abbreviation representing each state in the U.S. as the probability of you needing to memorize it is very high.
