- Employees in West Virginia that are 20 years or younger are eligible to be paid a training wage for the first 90 days of employment. After the 90 days are over, employers must start paying the state minimum wage or higher. The training wage is $5.15 per hour.
- There are some instances where not every employer must pay the minimum wage in West Virginia. For the state minimum wage requirements to apply in West Virginia, there must be at least six (6) or more non-exempt employees working at the same separate, distinct, and permanent work location. If that requirement is not met, the federal minimum wage may apply.
